Women's Basketball Wins 8th Straight
DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's basketball team won its eighth straight game, beating host Dallas College Mountain View 74-69 Thursday night.
The 10th-ranked Suns (11-9, 3-0 Dallas Athletic Conference) have not lost in the new year. Cedar Valley's last loss came on Dec. 13 at National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Western Oklahoma State College. The Suns do not have a loss outside of NJCAA Division I competition.
Breanna Sharp had 21 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks, and shot 9 of 16 from the field. It was her third double-double of the season, and the 21 points and 12 boards were season highs. Tynia Minnitt finished with 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal. She was 4 of 9 from three-point range. Thamerin Balthazar had 12 points and five steals. Cyncere McDonald had six points, eight rebounds and six steals.
Sharp and McDonald each had five offensive rebounds.
Cedar Valley, which swept the season series from Mountain View, trailed 53-49 after three quarters. But the Suns outscored the Lions 25-16 in the fourth quarter to remain unbeaten in conference play.
The Suns shot 31 percent from the floor, and hit 7 of 26 three-pointers. They were 11 of 19 at the free throw line.
Cedar Valley will finish conference play at No. 13 Dallas College Richland (8-9, 1-1) next Thursday at 6 p.m.
