Suns Win Big in Season Opener

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's soccer team won its season opener, beating Arlington Baptist University, 8-0, Friday.

Lilianna Tapia and Celeste Gonzalez each scored two goals. Gonzalez added three assists, and Tapia had one.  

Tapia put the Suns on the board in the third minute on an assist from Gonzalez and Karina Rivera. Eight minutes later, Victoria Hernandez found the back of the net on a setup from Gonzalez. Gonzalez gave Cedar Valley a three-goal lead before halftime when she converted a penalty kick in the 15th minute.

Nine minutes into the second half, Tapia scored again on an assist from Gonzalez. The Suns made it 5-0 four minutes later when Summer Soto scored an unassisted goal.

Rivera added a goal in the 72nd minute on an assist from Tapia. Four minutes later, Gonzalez scored her second goal when Jocelyn Botello connected with her to make it 7-0. Botello finished the scoring in the 83rd minute on an unassisted goal.

Cedar Valley cranked out 23 shots, including 17 on goal.

Suns goalkeeper Olivia Reyna stopped two shots in the win. She shared the shutout with Serena Aldana.

Cedar Valley will host Cisco College 11 a.m. Tuesday.
