Minnitt Voted DAC MVP, Suns Collect 14 Honors
DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's basketball's Tynia Minnitt was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player.
Breanna Sharp received the DAC Offensive Player of the Year and Cyncere McDonald was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Latasha Keith was named the league's Coach of the Year.
Minnitt, Sharp and McDonald joined Thamerin Balthazar and Karys Oubre as First Team All-DAC selections.
Janessa Rodriguez, ShaTarria Dowell, Kyla To, Layla Amir Hart and Carlysia Simien were Second Team picks.
A freshman guard from Waco, Texas, Minnitt was the league's consummate player, averaging 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.6 rebounds, while blocking nine shots.
In her first year with the Suns, Sharp, a freshman forward from Dallas, averaged 12 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals, and had nine blocks.
A sophomore guard from Waco, McDonald averaged 1.9 steals and five rebounds, while scoring six points per game.
Balthazar, a freshman guard from Alexandria, Louisiana, averaged 11.9 points and 1.7 steals, and shot 70.7 percent from the free throw line.
Oubre, a sophomore guard from Royse City, Texas, scored 8.2 points and came away with two steals per game, while shooting 33.8 percent from 3-point range.
A freshman guard from Mesquite, Texas, Rodriguez averaged 4.6 points and one steal, and shot 75 percent from the free throw line.
A freshman forward from Malakoff, Texas, Dowell averaged 4.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals, while hitting 71.4 percent of her free throws.
A sophomore guard from Plano, Texas, To scored 1.4 points and averaged just over a half of a steal per game.
Amir-Hart, a sophomore forward from Cedar Hill, Texas, scored two points per game on 41 percent field goal shooting, while pulling down just under one rebound per game.
A freshman guard from Orange, Texas, Simien averaged 1.5 points and one rebound.
Keith guided the Suns to the DAC regular season title and No. 9 national ranking in the final National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll. Cedar Valley went 12-9 overall, 4-0 in the conference. It was the fourth DAC title in the last five years under Keith. Her team won nine straight games to end the season.
