Suns Top Mountain View for First League Win
DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley authored its first Dallas Athletic Conference victory of the season, beating host Dallas College Mountain View 84-81 Saturday.
It came on the heels of a nine-day layoff, following weather postponements.
Larry Lyons scored 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting, and Jeremy Taylor had 18 points and eight rebounds as the Suns (4-16, 1-7 DAC) secured their first road win of the season. Lyons, who added five rebounds and two steals, was 6 of 7 from the free throw line. Taylor went 7 of 10 from the field.
Jordyn Johnson had 11 points and five assists for the Suns.
Cedar Valley shot 55.4 percent, despite making four of 16 three-pointers. The Suns were 18 for 23 at the free throw line. They outrebounded the Lions 43-36. Mountain View shot 47.8 percent, going 33 of 69. The Lions were 5 of 20 from long distance.
Mountain View's Parker Overstreet scored 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting, and had nine boards, five assists, three steals and a block. Kaden Richardson finished with 15 points and four steals. Jordan Wright had 13 points, and Anthony Cook 11 points and six boards. Wright was 3 of 6 from the 3-point line.
The Suns built a five-point halftime lead, and held off the Lions (6-16, 1-7) in the second half. Mountain View outscored Cedar Valley by a basket after the break.
Mountain View outrebounded Cedar Valley 11-6 on the offensive glass.
The win evened the season series between the two teams with one game remaining in the three-round format. They will meet again Feb. 18 at Cedar Valley.
Cedar Valley hosts Dallas College Brookhaven at 6 p.m. Monday before wrapping up the second round of conference play 6 p.m. Wednesday at Dallas College Eastfield.
