Suns Knock Off No. 3 Harvester Bees

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team beat No. 3 nationally-ranked Dallas College Eastfield 10-7 Wednesday to open the second round of conference action.

The Suns (16-19, 5-11 Dallas Athletic Conference) won their fourth straight conference game. They swept Dallas College Mountain View last week.

Cedar Valley opened up a 7-0 lead after three innings, scoring in each of its first three at-bats. After Eastfield (33-7, 13-3) picked up a run in the top of the fourth, the Suns answered with another to maintain the seven-run lead.

The Harvester Bees scored three times in the fifth, and added another in the sixth to pull within 8-5. The Suns picked up a run in the seventh before the Harvesters cut the deficit to 9-7 in the eighth. But Cedar Valley added another run in the bottom half of the inning, and Suns closer Rendon Garcia worked the final inning and a third to shut the door.

Cedar Valley's Julio Cuotto belted two doubles, and drove in three runs.  David Chandler had two hits, a stolen base and a walk in four at-bats. Ryan Hernandez was 1 for 4 with two RBI. Nathan Tucker went 1 for 4 with an RBI. Joshua Lile doubled, drew two walks and drove in a run.

Garcia had two walks and an RBI while playing center field before coming on to pitch. He allowed only a hit in his scoreless relief appearance to pick up his third save of the season. Starter Drake McIver (3-5) went six innings in the win, allowing five runs, six hits and three walks, while striking out five.

The series continues noon Friday at Eastfield for Game 2. The finale is scheduled for noon Saturday, also in Mesquite, Texas.
